What work opportunities exist in the UK or EU for an international student?

You can view the initial career destinations of students from different UWEprogrammes on the careers website. This will give you a picture of what past students were doing about six months after they completed their studies.

You will need to do careful research to check if you are likely to be able to stay in the UK after your studies; if you are unsure of your status in the UK or EU after you complete your course, please arrange an appointment to see a student adviser from Student Advice and Welfare Services. If you are able to stay and work in the UK or EU after your studies there are a number of useful resources available to help you research your options.

  • The Career Development Unit (CDU) can give you access to a range of print-based and internet-based resources.
  • The Council for International Education (UKCOSA) provides frequently updated and comprehensive information on a range of employment issues and is particularly helpful on the subject of work permit schemes.
  • The Prospects website provides a series of articles written for international students.

Due to work permit regulations some employers are unwilling to consider international students for their UK opportunities. You should check with individual employers whether they are willing to consider international students before filling in job application forms. If you do not need the employer to apply for a work permit on your behalf, you should make this clear in your application. This would only apply if you have permission to work in the UK following completion of your studies.
