Who needs to register for the Worker Registration Scheme?

Students from Estonia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia need to register under the Worker Registration Scheme if they are working in the UK. If you do not apply for registration within one month of starting a job, you will be deemed to be working illegally. Once you have completed 12 months continuous registered employment, you can apply for an EEA residence permit that confirms your right to free movement and unregistered employment.

To register under the Worker Registration Scheme, you need to apply to the Home Office. Registration applications are made on the WRS application form which can be obtained from www.workingintheuk.gov.uk. You will need to provide with your completed application:

  • a letter from your employer confirming employment
  • two passport photographs
  • your passport or ID card
  • payment of £70.
