As a student at UWE, you are automatically entitled to be become a member of the Students' Union (SU). The Students Union is run by students for the benefit of students.
However, the level of your involvement is largely up to you. Whilst the Students' Union will campaign on your behalf and seek to involve you in every decision it makes, there are times when you will be content to sit back and enjoy the social events it provides on all campuses.
The following gives an overview of what the Students' Union can do for you during your time at UWE.
The officers and elections
Every year the Students' Union holds elections where students vote to decide who runs the Union in the following year. There are four positions up for grabs: Student Representative President, Student Representative Vice President, Activities President and Sports President. Each of these roles receives payment and can be undertaken on a full-time or a part-time basis.
In addition to overseeing the day to day running of the Union, the elected officers must ensure that the policies and procedures that govern students are effective and are not detrimental to the student body. They also raise student issues at all levels of the University's decision making process.
There are many opportunities for you to get involved and influence the direction of the Union. You can contact the presidents through the Students' Union website at any time of the year, come along to our Annual General Meeting (AGM), ensure that you vote in the elections, or become a president yourself!
The main SU offices and services are based at the Frenchay Campus in F Block but each UWE campus also has a committee that runs all student activities on that site.
