If you are on a course of six months or more, you are entitled to send your children to state school free of charge. Children aged between 5 and 16 can go to state schools and may be allowed to remain until 18 at a school they started when they were aged 16 or under.
If your children are older than 16 and want to continue their education in the UK, they may attend an independent or private school or further education college. However, you should be aware that independent schools and further education colleges charge fees.
Please note that applications for school places can usuallyonly be made once you have a residential address in Bristol. It is not normally possible to make school applications before you arrive in the UK; however, once you have a Certifcate of Acceptance from UWE, you can try to apply for a place at a school from your children by mail.
To find out information about local schools and the admissionprocess, contact your Local Education Authority (LEA). You can find out contact details from your local telephone directory. Alternatively, you can visit the appropriate website.
