Do I have to register with the police when I arrive in the UK?

Nationals of some countries must register with the police within seven days of arrival in the UK. You also need to inform the police of any change of address during your stay and when you permanently leave the UK at the end of your studies. You should carry your registration card with you at all times.

If you have to register, it may be indicated on your entry clearance sticker or the immigration officer will have placed a stamp in your passport when you arrived in the UK.

The primary locations for the registration of foreign nationals in the Bristol area are:

  • Force Nationality Unit (FNU), Newfoundland Road Police Station, 83 Newfoundland Road, Bristol, BS2 9LU open 09.00 to 16.00 (closed 13.00 to 14.00) five days a week.

If you are studying at Hartpury College, you to need to register with:

  • Gloucestershire Constabulary Headquarters, No. 1 Waterwells, Waterwells Drive, Quedgeley, Gloucester GL2 2AN.

To register you will need:

  • £34 in cash for each person over the age of 16
  • your passport
  • two passport-sized photographs

If you are unsure whether you have to register, please contact Student Advice and Welfare Services (SAWS).
