University of the West of England

Someone I know has gone missing, do I need to report this and if so who should I get in contact with for help?

If you wish to report a missing person who is also a UWE student, in the first instance you should report the matter to the Head of Student Services, 3F, Frenchay Campus, tel. (0117) 32 82853 or the University Accommodation Manager, 1D11, Frenchay Campus, tel. (0117) 32 82944 if you are in Halls of Residence. The University will contact the police to report the missing person.

If the missing person is not a UWE student you should telephone the local police direct on (0845) 456 7000 or the Police Officer Mike Lynett based at UWE on (0117) 32 82669.

You will need to supply the police with as much detailed information as possible, including the following:

  • the full name and address of missing person
  • his/her age and date of birth
  • a young person will always be regarded as vulnerable by virtue of their age. In the case of a missing adult, the police need to know if there are any other circumstances that might make them particularly vulnerable (e.g. whether they are infirm or have a history of mental disorder)
  • when they were last seen and in what circumstances
