As an international student, am I entitled to any grants or loans?

International students are not entitled to any direct support from the UK Government in the shape of grants or loans, including the Student Loan scheme. However, some help may be available in the form of scholarships and bursaries, educational trusts and charities, and sponsorships, although the funding available is extremely limited and is unlikely to meet the full cost of your studies. Please refer to 'Can you suggest any sources of funding outside UWE?'.

It is essential that you fully understand your liability for fees and the full cost of study. Before you leave your home country you must secure sufficient funds to support yourself and any dependants while in the UK. If you need to transfer funds to the UK, make sure that you comply with any foreign exchange requirements and that you transfer the money early so that you can pay your tuition fees, accommodation charges and other expenses on time. You will also need to ensure that you comply with any immigration requirements for study in the UK. These British Council web pages on funding your studies may be useful.

Please note that this information applies only to the 2007/2008 academic year.
