You need to be registered with a doctor to qualify for National Health Service (NHS) dental treatment otherwise you will have to pay the full cost for any treatment. It is advisable to register with a local dental practice as soon as you arrive in Bristol. Information about where to find a dentist is available by searching the local NHS website. The website gives locations and opening times of dental services available to you if you qualify as an NHS patient. You can also ring NHS Direct on (0845) 4647 and they will look up information for you.
If you are not registered with a local dentist, emergency treatment is available by appointment from the NHS Dental Centre, 33 Broad Street, Bristol BS1 2EZ on (0117) 906 9612. Alternatively, telephone NHS Direct on (0845) 4647 for availability of emergency appointments for non-registered patients at other local dental access centres. You can also get advice from the Avon Dental out-of-hours service on telephone (08451) 206 680.
There is a charge for all dental treatment but the dentist will ask you to sign an estimation of treatment costs before they proceed with the treatment. Information about entitlement to dental services, dental payment schemes and charges can be found on the British Dental Health Foundation website.
