Council Tax is payable to the local council by people living in the UK. The amount is dependent upon the value of the property lived in. Council Tax in Bristol can vary between £950 and £2850 per year. Full-time students living with other students do not normally need to pay Council Tax. A non-student husband or wife who shares the accommodation is also exempt provided that the spouse is :
- not British, and
- under their immigration conditions not allowed to work in the UK or claim public funds (state benefits).
Please note that spouses of EU/EEA nationals are liable for Council Tax. For further information please contact Student Advice and Welfare Services.
