How do I buy a ticket for a bus journey?

On public buses, you can buy tickets from the bus driver using cash: they will not take large notes as they have limited change. The most common types of ticket you can buy directly from the driver, are:

  • single: a one way journey
  • return: if you wish to return from your destination by the same route
  • day ticket: such as the 'Firstday' which allows unlimited travel on all buses for one day.

You will need to tell the driver the destination of your journey and the type of ticket you require.

Alternatively, weekly, monthly or yearly season tickets can be obtained at the Students' Union office, at any First Travel Centre or at various newsagents.

The First City Line website gives information of the types of tickets available and how much they cost. For more information on the Ulink bus service which links the University campuses please click here.
